There seems to be a new makeup or beauty trend on the ‘gram every five minutes.
Some of them are weird, like the shortlived hairy nail trend (it’s exactly what you think it is), while others can be pretty cool.
The new ‘Instaception’ trend falls into the latter category, and is best described as an Instagram post within an Instagram post.
In other words, makeup artists will go all out on one eye, and then paint a border around it so that it resembles an Instagram post, before posting their work on Instagram.
Mashable says that the trend started with @dom.skii (seen below):
…who first posted the look three weeks ago and captioned it “picture perfect.” He framed his eyes with the like, comment, and share icons.
Since then, talented makeup artists have posted their own takes on the Insta-ception trend.
The results range from the simple framing of a single eye to photorealistic eyes and lips with Instagram borders, scattered across the face.
To create the look, makeup artists leave the entire face makeup free, with the exception of the square where they paint the Instagram post.
