If you thought traffic was bad yesterday evening trying to get out of the Cape Town CBD, you should check out what happened in Bologna, Italy.
A gas tanker exploded on a motorway, killing three people and injuring 70. The explosion happened when a tanker truck, loaded with liquefied petroleum gas, got into a traffic accident near the airport.
Video of the incident captured footage that rival even the most hardcore action flick:
Several emergency squads and rescue teams were sent to the scene, and firefighters worked to extinguish the blast.
Aerial footage of the explosion gives us a good sense of just how massive the blast was:
Cars and other vehicles in the area caught fire. As for the airport, here’s the Independent:
In a tweet about the explosion, the city’s airport said it was not affected.
“Huge explosion on the Bologna motorway, Bologna airport is not involved, flights are running regularly,” the airport said on its Twitter account.
The blast has done considerable damage to the motorway and surrounding areas. Police are asking the public not to go near the affected area.
The videos keep coming though, so apparently, you can’t keep a good Instagrammer down.
