When you worked as the front man for a dishonest administration, feeding the American people lies to cover up the president’s gaping inadequacies, you shouldn’t be allowed to go around signing your book in peace.
The reviews for Sean Spicer’s book have been great fun to read (seriously, check this out), but the latest kick in Spicer’s groin comes from an old classmate, who confronted the former White House press secretary at a book signing in Rhode Island.
At first, it seems like they might share a chuckle about the good ol’ days, but then it becomes clear that Alex Lombard doesn’t have such fond memories of Spicer.
Awkward:
Sky News with the reaction:
Mr Lombard was reportedly in Portsmouth Abbey School’s class of 1990, while Mr Spicer was in the class of 1989.
Following the incident, a publicist for Mr Spicer said he was “taken aback” by the man’s “outrageous claim” – and said he had no recollection of being in school with him.
Lauren McCue, a publicist for Regnery Publishing, said Mr Spicer was “not sure if this was just a stunt this man was pulling” – adding that it was an “odd time” for the allegation to be made given that he has been in the news for a couple of years.
Yes, a man who consistently lied for Donald Trump and his cohorts would never do such a thing.
Still, my favourite heckle came from someone in New York at an earlier book signing:
At a launch event in New York, a heckler shouted at Mr Spicer: “You’re a real piece of garbage. And I hope you look around and you see all these empty seats.
“I’ve read the reviews… it’s a garbage book and you’re a garbage person!”
He’s right – the reviews really are garbage. Some of my favourite lines from this compilation:
“The Briefing” isn’t a political memoir, nor is it a work of recent history, nor a tell-all, or tell-anything. Rather, it is a bumbling effort at gaslighting Americans into doubting what they have seen with their own eyes as far back as June 2015…
Mr. Spicer’s book is much like his tenure as press secretary: short, littered with inaccuracies…
He refers to the author of the infamous Trump dossier as “Michael Steele,” who is in truth the former chairman of the Republican National Committee, not the British ex-spy Christopher Steele. He recounts a reporter asking Mr. Obama a question at a White House press conference in 1999, a decade before Mr. Obama was elected.
And yes, he still maintains that Trump’s inauguration crowd was the biggest of all time, proving that Spicer is still singing for his supper, even after being booted to the curb by the Donald.
