Put your cash back in your dad’s pocket, ’cause three of the “fairy tale castles” that lay on the Noetzie Beach shoreline near Knysna now belong to a foreign investor.
The bunch were sold by High Street Auctions for a total of R28.5 million, including all furniture, to a German national that would rather keep his name a secret. Dodgy, mate.
Fin24 knows a lot more about this type of stuff than I do:
Noetzie’s Pezula Castle is situated in its own private garden with the sand of Noetzie beach just a few metres away. The residence has a heated pool, huge terraces with panoramic views of the ocean, and a gymnasium.
Wait until you see the pics. Ok, it’s time:
The boys and girls at Fin24 are describing it as a romantic hideaway, with Cliff Castle sitting against the rock face above the Pezula castle, boasting panoramic vies of the beach and ocean.
Joff van Reenen, High Street’s lead auctioneer and director, says the final details were negotiated after the monetary battle:
“The international buyer initially approached us at the auction with an offer that was presented to the seller. After some vigorous negotiation the parties agreed on the sale price. The necessary guarantees have now been met and the sale is through.”
I don’t care about the details to be honest. I just want to see how dope this place really is, don’t you?
Here’s a better view:
Now you can see why Madiba spent a couple of weeks here some time ago. I mean, the castle even won the accolade of Best International Property in the CNBC Intentional Property Awards, beating 4000 entries from 56 countries around the globe.
This is where I’d have a ciggie:
Joints are fine inside:
Fin24 with some more knowledge:
It was chosen as best international property judged on location, architecture, design, appearance and finish. Details of safety, security, energy efficiency and innovation were also taken into account.
I dug a little deeper and found out that the oldest castle – the one at the end of the beach – was built as a holiday house by Herbert Stephen Henderson in the 1930’s:
The story goes that he had no intention of building a “castle”, but simply used the stone for practical reasons, when Rex Metelerkamp, a member of a well-known local family, who was watching the building, jokingly said “All you need to do is to add a few turrets and you’ll have a castle”.
Good eye, Rex.
Before I go, I want you to imagine having a bath with this view:
But then I want to laugh, and cry, because an old German’s bum cheeks have now ruined it forever.
