Would you rather be Iron Man or Superman?
Right now, there’s probably not much you can do to turn yourself into an alien superhero wearing a full-body leotard, but this department store in England sure as hell can make your Iron Man fantasy come true.
For the price of R5,9 million, that is.
Selfridges is now selling a high-tech personal jet pack – or jet engine-powered suit – that allows you to let you live out your Avengers dream.
NBC News has got the scoop:
Designed by English inventor Richard Browning and made by Gravity Industries, a Salisbury, England-based tech start-up he founded in 2017, the jet suit consists of five small kerosene-fueled turbine engines — two worn on each arm and one on the back.
It produces more than 1 000 horsepower, according to Selfridges. It can be used for flights of up to four minutes, Reuters reported.
The suit, dubbed “Daedalus” after the artist in Greek mythology who built wings of feathers and wax, is said to be able to lift a person up to 12 000 feet in the air — though users may want to stay closer to the ground.
Sounds like a real-life Tony Stark, this Browning chap. He even set a Guinness World Record in one of these damn things, hitting a speed of 51,53km/h while flying over a lake.
Seems appealing. However, the price-tag of these suits – £340 000, or over R5,9 million – is enough to make anyone hulk out.
While he admits that it might take a while for the jet suit to catch on, Browning (pictured above) remains upbeat about its future:
It’s an entirely pure form of complete three-dimensional freedom … Just like the first motor cars, which were noisy, smelly and inefficient … we have some way to go before you could commute by jet suit.

Oh yeah. Tony Stark would definitely approve.
Beat that, Superman.
