Here in the 2OV office we’re suckers for punishment, which is why we have CNN on the telly most mornings.
That means the same segments over and over, but you’re also treated to the odd fireworks display when a pro-Trump voice is a studio guest.
The same thing almost never happens over on Faux News Fox News, because their aim is not to encourage actual debate, but rather to sell Donald Trump and his presidency for ratings and financial gain.
Every now and again, however, someone slips through the net, and that’s exactly what happened with Barbara L’Italien, a Democratic state senator in Massachusetts.
Fox News thought they had booked Ann Kirkpatrick, who has been in the news for supporting ICE and Trump’s family separation immigration policy, but someone never did their homework.
Look at how utterly clueless these hosts are at dealing with an opinion that isn’t the same as theirs:
How about those last 10 seconds? An incredulous ‘who is this’, and an admission that things hadn’t gone to plan.
Quick note – your hosts would have you believe that those immigrant families have been reunited, and some have, but there are still thousands of children separated from their parents.
Via Huff Post, here’s how the snafu occurred:
Desiree Dunne, executive producer of “Fox & Friends First” said the network reached out to the press contact it had on file for Kirkpatrick, Joe Katz, and he accepted the invitation on the candidate’s behalf…
“During the actual segment, Barbara L’Italien appeared on camera instead of Kirkpatrick. Despite speaking to producers prior to the interview, L’Italien did not identify herself as anything other than Kirkpatrick until she was live on air, at which point we ended the interview.”
L’Italien and her campaign have a different version of events:
L’Italien’s campaign told HuffPost that “due to a Fox News error, L’Italien was contacted in place of another congressional candidate to speak about her views on ICE on Fox & Friends First.”
“They reached out to our staff believing they were reaching the Kirkpatrick office due to their own failure of due diligence…
“Over the process of getting the interview scheduled, they repeatedly showed very little grasp on the facts, down to whether or not Ann Kirkpatrick [above] was still in Congress. Fox News is where you go when you want to talk to Donald Trump, and Barbara felt she had an obligation to her constituents to take advantage of that opportunity. But this would not have happened to an actual news station. Fox’s lack of attention to the facts normally is a disaster for the country, it just so happened that today it was embarrassing for them.”
I’m sure they’ll spin it as some vicious and dirty liberal tactic, and Hannity and Tucker Carlson will froth during their Fox News segments.
Then again, find me a day where you can’t say that about Fox News.
