Trust Google to end this dismal week off with a laugh.
A new web trick has emerged, and I swear it’s the greatest thing to happen since Google Translate trolled flat-earthers.
For y’all anti-Donald Trump fans out there (hang on – no, that’s not a double negative), you’re going to love this.
All you have to do is type in the word “idiot” into Google, as I did, and click the ‘Images’ tab.
Voilà, your screen will look something like this:
Yup, you’ll be treated to an onslaught of images featuring the king of idiots himself.
It’s no secret that the Trumpman is a prize idiot – in fact, it’s a universal truth. So how come it’s taken Google’s algorithm this long to make it web official?
CNET explains:
The image onslaught is apparently the result of a campaign by online activists unhappy with the president’s policies who are manipulating Google’s algorithm by linking the word to an image of Trump. The trend began with Reddit users upvoting a post containing a photo of Trump and the word, The Guardian reported Tuesday.
Subsequently, the image results were apparently fueled by thousands of upvotes for Reddit posts containing news stories about the word, the president’s image and the overall campaign.
Bless you, Reddit.
Unfortunately for the peeps at the White House, Google doesn’t tend to mess with their search results. They said back in 2009:
Search engines are a reflection of the content and information that is available on the Internet. A site’s ranking in Google’s search results relies heavily on computer algorithms using thousands of factors to calculate a page’s relevance to a given query.
If it means Donald Trump’s orange mug keeps popping up my screen every time I look up the word “idiot”, then bless you as well, Google.
Now let’s try and get Google to do the same thing when we type in “man-baby“.
