It’s stuff like this that makes me wonder if getting a little boost in the booty area is really worth the aggro.
Dr Denis Furtado, a Brazilian plastic surgeon to the stars, has done a runner after one of his patients died in an attempt to enlarge her buttocks.
You would think a professional like Furtado, who goes by the nickname “Dr Bumbum”, would be a dab hand at performing procedures like this.
After all, he’s boasted about performing more than 8 000 bottom-enlargement surgeries without a hitch.
Not so in this case, says the BBC:
Investigators say Dr Denis Furtado carried out the procedure on Lilian Calixto [pictured below] at his home in Rio de Janeiro but she fell ill during the procedure.
Dr Furtado took her to a hospital where her condition worsened and she died some hours later, police said …
Ms Calixto, a 46-year-old married mother-of-two who worked in banking, had travelled from her home in Cuiaba, central Brazil, to undergo buttock enhancement by Dr Furtado on Saturday evening [July 15], reports said.
The procedure, believed to involve the injection of acrylic glass filler, took place at his apartment in the upmarket district of Barra de Tijuca.
The Hospital Barra D’Or in Rio de Janeiro said that, despite efforts to save her, Ms Calixto was “unresponsive to manoeuvres” and died early on Sunday morning. The exact reason for her death has not been confirmed.
However, the Evening Standard says that a hospital source claims that Dr Furtado “inadvertently injected the product into one of Ms Calixto’s arteries, resulting in the formation of a clot that would have ruptured in her heart”.
Any which way, Dr Bumbum took this as a cue to haul ass afterwards.
Now he’s got an arrest warrant out for him, and the report goes on to add the police arrested both the nurse who assisted in the procedure and Furtado’s girlfriend.
Great job, Dr Bumbum.
This won’t sit well with his 650 000 Instagram followers, or the 45 000-plus peeps who follow his Facebook page.
His Instagram account is unavailable – possibly deleted – although photos from the ‘gram posted to his Facebook page shows him hanging with some of his clients, his procedures, and bum shots aplenty:
If the law had their way, we’d be getting a mugshot of the MIA doctor instead.
The Regional Medical Council of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Cremerj) has opened an investigation into Calixto’s death.
Meanwhile, Niveo Steffen, president of the Brazilian Plastic Surgery Society, put Dr Bumbum on blast for his actions, and he took a jab at “non-specialists” while he was at it:
You cannot perform plastic surgery inside an apartment.
Many people are selling a dream, a fantasy to patients in an unethical way and people, weakened, are often attracted to low prices, without considering whether or not the conditions are adequate.
It’s safe to say that Dr Bumbum never got that memo.
