We know South Africa has a rape crisis on its hands, and has had for decades, but every now and again you see something that still manages to leave you shaken.
Perhaps that rings even truer when you consider what overseas audiences must think when they watch videos like this effort from the BBC, which focuses on Diepsloot and the community’s efforts to fight back against terrifying sexual predators.
First question you might have – where is Diepsloot? Well, if you want a reminder of how closely opulence and poverty exist in this country, consider that Diepsloot borders Steyn City.

That image above comes via a Bhekisa story on Diepsloot from back in 2015, but let’s stick with the BBC.
Currently ranked as one of the site’s most-watched videos this week, here are a few clips from the full doccie, My Neighbour the Rapist.
Be warned, it does contain some harrowing footage:

BBC Africa also uploaded the full doccie to their YouTube channel:
I never said it was going to make for easy viewing, but sometimes a painful reminder that makes the blood boil is needed.
