They say you should never meet your heroes, and in many cases that’s true.
All too often the chance encounter with someone you’ve always admired leaves a sour taste in the mouth, and one is left wishing that the illusion had never been shattered.
It seems that local travel blogger Meruschka Govender, who goes by @MzansiGirl across Instagram and Twitter, enjoyed her meeting with a teenage favourite of hers, though.
We’ve always been fond of Ard Matthews (his latest music video was a cracker), but we were rather surprised to learn that he had actually fronted the Springbok Nude Girls, unbeknownst to us…
Early Sunday morning flights aren’t usually the time you want to bump into fans, but Ard looks in good spirits.
But, and this is awkward, I believe she might have Ard and a certain Arno Carstens mixed up.
Over on Twitter, Meruschka also let her followers know how big a fan she was:
If you were wondering how long it took for someone to tell her, the answer was not very long.
Meruschka has since deleted the tweet above, and made a rather crucial edit to the Facebook post:
That’s more like it. I guess Meruschka will be stoked to learn that Ard has just released a new album, Impossible Machines, which you find on iTunes here.
We reached out to Ard via Timon, a local app that lets anybody chat on-demand to some of SA’s finest minds, to ask him about the chance encounter.
He said:
The last time this happened I was confused with Jeremy Loops. Clearly my weight loss regime is going well!
Fair enough, and yes, you are looking rather trim.
Arno Carstens also had a decent chuckle when we asked him for comment, saying:
Hopefully Ard will come sing on our new album now.
Imagine combining Just Jinger and Springbok Nude Girls to form a superband called “Jinger Nude Girls”? Actually, I’m not sure that’s going to prove popular.
Still, we would be keen to see Ard and Arno team up to make some magic happen.
Meruschka, wherever you are, we are only having a laugh. You do you out there, and maybe we’ll see you at Arno’s Ard’s next gig.
