Oh dear, Mark Zuckerberg is probably not all that pleased with this latest development.
He’s also probably not pleased about the identity of the individual who’s about to break his record as the youngest self-made billionaire.
Drum-roll, please.
It’s … Kylie Jenner!
That’s right, the youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan is on track to break the embattled Facebook CEO’s record thanks to her massive wealth, which is nearing the billion dollar mark, reports The Guardian:
The financial magazine Forbes estimates that [20-year-old] Jenner is worth $900m (R12,1 billion), making her not just the richest member of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, but on course to become the youngest self-made billionaire ever. Mark Zuckerberg, the current record holder, was worth $1bn (R13 billion) at the age of 23.
A comparatively small part of Jenner’s fortune, around $100m (R1,3 billion), comes from endorsement deals with Puma, PacSun clothing, diet teas and other slimming products as well as her appearances on two reality shows: Keeping Up with the Kardashians and her spin-off series Life of Kylie. The remaining $800m (R10,7 billion) is the value of Kylie Cosmetics, the beauty company Jenner launched two years ago and owns outright …
Since then, the company has sold $630m (R8,4 bliion) of makeup, helped in a large part by Jenner’s own social media presence. She regularly posts information and photos about new product lines for her 110 million Instagram followers. She has become so dominant on social media that when she tweeted that she had become bored with Snapchat, its parent company’s stock lost 6% of its value within a day, around $1.3bn (over R17 billion).
Crushing the business game, queening over social media and crippling other brands with her boredom … Mama Kris must be so proud.
Thing is, explains The Daily Mail, people aren’t thrilled with Forbes for calling Jenner a “self-made billionaire.”
Not so much the “billionaire” part – she’s going to crack that, no problem.
It’s the word “self-made” that’s making the publication catch a lot of flak.
Tweeps turned the savage levels up to 100, calling out Forbes for using that particular word. Jenner and her fellow Kardashian-Jenner kinsmen were also put on blast, natch:
That’s a lot of spicy truths for Forbes to swallow.
Even Dictionary.com’s official Twitter account took a jab at Forbes, giving them an English vocab lesson they’ll probably never forget:
If you ever need the definition for “savage”, look up this tweet.
Thank you, Zuckerberg, for sacrificing Facebook so that Kylie Jenner can be called the youngest “self-made” billionaire by Forbes. We needed the laugh.
