July 18 is almost upon us, which means that Mandela Day is just around the corner.
It’s a lekker way to give back to the less fortunate, reaching out to those who need a little bit of hope and TLC, and to help out the causes that are close to your heart.
And, of course, it honours the one and only Madiba.
If that gives you a warm feeling, then you can imagine how great the folks at Haven Night Shelter who work day and night to save lives must feel.
These everyday heroes do so much to improve the lives of those who don’t have it easy, day after day and month after month.
In short, every day is Mandela Day for them.
Taking cues from these amazing folks, RSAWEB, South Africa’s leading internet service provider, is running a fantastic Mandela Day project.
It will see their staff spending their 67 minutes of service by preparing and serving lunch at the Haven Night Shelter.
If you’re keen to get involved, you can donate some much-needed necessities, which will be taken to the shelter on Mandela Day. They’re collecting:
Not everyone has access to these items like we do, and these will make a huge difference to somebody’s dignity and quality of life.
These items can be dropped off on the 4th floor, Point Building, 76 Regent Road, Sea Point, before Monday, 16 July.
However, if you can’t make a drop-off at the office, don’t go flying into a panic – RSAWEB has you covered.
Another cool way to get involved is through Twitch, on which Medic Nick will be doing a series of streams in the run-up until Mandela Day. The money generated from these streams will be used to buy items from the list above. You catch him on Twitter for stream updates.
Sounds like a solid win-win situation, especially if you don’t have time to make the drop-off.
What’s more, RSAWEB is planning to keep this initiative going, meaning that you can continue your heroic efforts post-Mandela Day.
Feel those good vibes? Perfect.
Strive to be an everyday hero this Mandela Day and beyond, because you’re just that kind of person.
