In a tragic turn of events, one person was confirmed dead and at least 20 people injured after a plane went down in Wonderboom, Pretoria, yesterday.
According to ER24 spokesperson Russell Meiring, who spoke to News24, two air ambulance helicopters were on the scene, and the range of injuries ranged from minor to critical.
Reports indicated that the charter plane was carrying passengers on an international flight when the deadly crash occurred.
Take a look at this shocking footage:
That’s a seriously bumpy takeoff.
According to Times LIVE, the plane was repainted in “the classic Martinair scheme for its imminent departure to its new home at the Aviodrome Lelystad in the Netherlands”.
“We are extremely shocked that the Convair 340‚ the aircraft that was on its way to the Aviodrome‚ crashed during the takeoff of a test flight in South Africa. Our priority is now to securing the safety of all those involved‚” Aviodrome said in a post on Facebook.
They also had additional footage, filmed from above of the aftermath of the crash:
Judging from the updated News24 report, the crash looks nastier up close:
Emer-g-med’s Jurgen Kotze, who said they were the first responders to the accident, said four people including the pilot sustained critical injuries.
“The pilot is still entrapped in the cockpit of the airplane and sustained critical injuries. We are still treating him on scene,” he said at the time.
Absolutely tragic.
At this stage, it’s unknown what caused the crash in the first place.
