Dear lord, why?
It’s pretty embarrassing when the New York Times goes to town on your party, and it’s also pretty embarrassing when you’re on the receiving end of a Twitter bashing of note.
Social media users are putting the party on blast after it took its election efforts to Vhembe, Limpopo last week, which included an absurd ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Hey, I like a nice ribbon-cutting ceremony like everyone else. For a toilet, though? ANC, we have to question your logic here.
Per a report by The Citizen, ANC provincial deputy chairperson Florence Radzilani [pictured cutting the ribbon], who is also the mayor of Vhembe, conducted a toilet-handover ceremony on Friday, July 6:
Photoshopped, these pics are not.
The official ANC Twitter account uploaded these pics, and … ja, talk about hanging a carrot in front of a rabbit.
Some tweeps took the mickey out of the party:
Others took some savage swipes at them:
Like the last tweep, I feel like laughing and crying over this entire debacle.
On Facebook, there’s a mixed bag of comments from the ANC critics:
Some discussed the costs of such a prestigious event:
Hmm, I’m sure Naomi Campbell has got more important things to do with her life than entertain the ANC’s kak, like designing a fashion line.
Others thought the toilets were great, just not the actual ceremony itself:
Exactly. We’ve seen a number of tragic deaths in recent times involving children falling into latrine pits, so kudos for tackling that problem. The fanfare around it, however, just seems like a desperate clamour for votes.
Others just took the ANC to town:
You might say that after this fiasco, ANC’s efforts to swing votes in their favour has gone down the toilet.
