We all want to feel like good people, and I’m sure you’re going to be hearing plenty about Mandela Day over the next two weeks.
That’s fine, because it’s all for a good cause, but what are you going to do to make sure you snatch up some good karma?
Maybe you’re going to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in, and we applaud you for that, or maybe you’re thinking that donating to the right cause is the best way to make an impact.
If you fall into that second category, and you’re happy to let someone else take the reins on the first, here’s a little heads up.
Kiff Bru Projects (KBP) are running a fantastic Mandela Day project that is guaranteed to put beaming smiles on faces, and it’s really easy to get involved.
If you pledge R67, they will make July 18 a very special day for one child on your behalf.
KBP, together with Picnic Company, aims to provide 1 200 children with learning implements and, since we are all too familiar with the adage “you can’t teach a hungry child”, a meal to fill their little tummies.
Every R67 donation means one Food for Thought package delivered on the day, which includes:
Not to lay on the guilt trip, but doesn’t every kid deserve a lekker lunch and a fizzer?
You can pledge as many packages as you like, and every little bit helps towards reaching the goal of 1 200. As it stands, more than 600 have already been pledged.
Businesses and organisations can also create a registry, with employees then pledging to that registry. Doing good and boosting the office moral – tick.
To ensure those feelgood vibes, here’s the screen that greets you when you’ve made a pledge:
Yes, I made a pledge and stop it – you’re a kiff person.
On Mandela Day, you’ll be kept up to speed with how and where the Food for Thought packages are delivered, and you’ll get to see the joy your simple act of giving has brought to children in need.
You’ve done well – allow yourself a pat on the back and a stiff drink or two.
Feeling inspired? Kiff Bru Projects aren’t just about Mandela Day, and are currently running three separate projects.
One focuses on the Maitland Cottage Children’s Orthopaedic Hospital, one on the Animal Anti-Cruelty League, and the third on the Ukama Community Foundation, which provides creches with the necessary items to keep youngsters happy.
You can make a donation to the project of your choosing, or set up a registry for friends and family to pledge to on your birthday.
Yoh, you’re maxing out on that good karma now.
Whatever you do, and however you do it, be kiff.
