After a shark rocked up at the J-Bay Open this time last year, and another one attacked Mick Fanning at the event in 2015, care to take a guess as to what appeared at the contest?
Yup, you guessed it.
Per a report by SAPeople, a shark disrupted the J-Bay open on Thursday morning, reportedly making its way towards the surfers in the competition zone.
Take a look at this big guy:
Yeesh. Something tells me this fellow wouldn’t hesitate to bite off more than your finger if you tried to piss it off.
As a result of the disturbance, World Surf League was forced to put the surfing heat on hold.
It’s not the first time this has happened since the competition has been underway:
Just yesterday surfers had to be plucked out of the ocean as a “sizeable great white” shark was in the vicinity.
Many called it “déjà vu” after the very close encounter that Australian pro surfer Mick Fanning had with a shark during the competition in J Bay in 2015.
Yesterday the WSL said it had no option but to call the competition off for the day if “the shark insists on staying in the area”. The shark did!
SL said the Great White shark was two point five to three metres long. It’s not certain if today’s shark was the same as yesterday’s visitor.
Goodness knows no one is going to near the damn shark to check.
Here’s some footage of yesterday’s disturbance:

As a report by Nine.com reports, only heats three and four were completed, but not heat five. The competition resumed when airplanes and drones confirmed the shark had moved around the corner and a kilometre out to sea.
Brave lads and ladies, those surfers.
Best of luck to them, and hopefully they win themselves equal paychecks for their shark troubles.
