Every day that passes brings me one step closer to not owning my dream house in Higgovale, so why not cast a wider net to others places I’ll never be able to afford.
Tuesday’s City Bowl search takes us to Oranjezicht, and we’re throwing back all the way to 1925 with a seven-bedroom, R29 750 000 mansion that is built from Table Mountain sandstone.
That’s according to the listing for the 1,801 m² home on Pam Golding, so let’s check in with what they have to say:
…the design incorporates many Sir Herbert Baker characteristics…The prominent corner position ensures commanding views over the City Bowl to Table Bay, while the windows and terraces throughout the house, encompass both these and Table Mountain, Lions Head and Signal Hill vistas. The imposing entrance hall has Burmese teak strip flooring and unique teak-paneled walls, alluding to the quality with which the house was originally built.
I dunno about an imposing entrance, but if it keeps people from dropping by unannounced there’s no price too steep.
Quick location check:
They go on and on about the grandeur, but let’s just get the basics down. Seven bedrooms, 14 bathrooms, a pool, two parking garages, and a two-bedroom cottage on the property as well.
Photo time:
So, this kitchen…
Not a fan, but given that the house was built in 1925, I imagine it was OK to cordon off ‘the help’ whilst guests gazed down over the city.
Two more snaps before we call it:
Majestic.
