Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa can count himself rather lucky, after a blast at an election rally in Bulawayo on Saturday left at least 49 people injured.
He escaped largely unscathed, but one security officer had to have a leg amputated, presidential spokesman George Charamba said.
Zimbabwe’s president has called the explosion an ‘assassination attempt’, and officials say a large-scale investigation is underway to find those behind the attack.
Here’s the exact moment the blast went off:

According to Times LIVE, someone threw a grenade:
The president survived an assassination plot by sheer luck when a grenade thrown in his direction exploded in what he later called a “cowardly act”.
Other reports do not mention a grenade, citing a ‘complex investigation’ into what transpired.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what the rest of that investigation turns up.
