Sorry, give me a second, I’m still reeling from watching Argentina get torn apart by Croatia.
We’re eight days into the 2018 World Cup, and some of the world’s premier teams look a little lost.
Germany and Argentina, in particular, but it’s still early days and there’s plenty of time to turn things around. For Germany, because Argentinian fans should be gnawing at any remaining fingernails.
One man who has certainly delivered the goods is Cristiano Ronaldo, banging in a hat-trick against Spain and the winner against Morocco.
He might give 100% on the field, but when it comes to his personal life, it’s a different story. Every footie fan should watch Ronaldo, the superb documentary detailing exactly what he gets up to behind closed doors, which is now available on Showmax.
I know all the money makes the lifestyle seem glamorous, but these world stars do end up sacrificing quite a bit.
Next up is We Must Go, a documentary chronicling the journey of the Egyptian National Soccer team and coach Bob Bradley as they fight to reach the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
This one is pretty darn riveting:
Men in the Arena proves that sometimes the most compelling stories don’t take place on the pitch.
Two Somali soccer stars chase impossible dreams in this human rights story born out of civil war and terror. It’s a survival story, a human rights story, and a rare sports journey principally shot and produced in Kenya, Somalia, and the United States.
Lastly, who doesn’t miss the 2010 World Cup? It’s impossible to hear a vuvuzela blare out without thinking of our African showcase, and seeing that opening goal whizz into the top corner still brings a smile to my face.
2010 – Once in A Lifetime is a golden oldie…
Feel it – it is heeeeeere!
Or was here, but there’s no harm in basking in those glorious memories before watching the 2018 teams try and forge their own piece of history.
You’ll find those four films, and a whole range of others, on Showmax. It’s free for all DStv subscribers, and if you’re not on board yet take it for a spin with a free 14-day trial.
There’s plenty for other sports fans, too – how about the Siya Kolisi story, or a look at the controversial Ozzie cricket ‘Sandpaper’ tour?
Hands up if you’re spending the weekend indoors watching sport.
