Breastfeeding is normal, guys.
At least, that’s how it should be.
Despite the fact that we’re living in the modern age, a lot of people still find the act of breastfeeding a baby, specifically in public, quite shocking.
Remember that photo of the Kyrgyzstan president’s daughter? Or the breast pump incident with Donald Trump?
Obviously, a viral video of a Canadian MP doing the deed in the House of Commons isn’t going to do these backwards-thinking folks any favours.
Roll the tape:
Power to you, Karina Gould.
The Guardian has more info on what was going on:
Canada’s health minister was being grilled in the House of Commons over the country’s plans to legalise recreational marijuana by mid-October, but it was the scene playing out behind Ginette Petitpas Taylor that catapulted the moment into headlines: one row over, during a raucous Question Period, Liberal MP Karina Gould was breastfeeding her three-month-old son.
To be honest, I wouldn’t have noticed Gould doing this because breastfeeding is breastfeeding. Normal stuff, remember?
Of course, social media’s reactions to the footage have been mixed, but is Gould bothered?
Nah, she isn’t:
I’m going to add “dropping the mic” to her list of amazing multi-tasking skills.
At least there are Tweeps out there who’ve lauded Gould and chastised her haters:
Even the men-folk are giving their support:
Louder for the ignorant people in the back!
It’s about damn time working mothers got their props, and Gould has opened the floodgates for that to happen.
Let’s hope those backward folk out there will soon be ready to go with the flow.
