Sjoe, this chap from Durban definitely fits the definition of brave.
Darren Nades had the guts to thwart two would-be car thieves’ attempt to steal his bakkie outside his employer’s Morningside office on Friday morning, June 15.
The 27-year-old engineer told News24 that their receptionist had spotted the men approaching and casually getting into the vehicle.
That’s when Nades turned into Superman and sprung into action.
Spoiler alert – the thieves got their asses handed to them, but came back swinging:
Wow, the display of sheer badassery from Nades is incredible. Someone give him a medal or trophy or something, please.
Nevertheless, it’s a damn lucky thing that Nades didn’t get hurt: one of the thieves came at him wielding a spanner, but fortunately, the engineer was able to retreat back into the property.
Still, the thought of what could have happened if they had a gun has got Nades spooked:
I’m good, but it was playing on my mind over the weekend. I have my own family with two little ones and if they had a gun, this could have been a completely different outcome.
As for the bakkie, it didn’t get away unscathed, and it’s currently with assessors who are calculating the damage, said Nades:
They actually had the ignition stripped in under a minute. If I had given them five seconds more, the vehicle would have been gone.
Thanks to Nades’ courage – and not least the police’s failure to arrive at the scene – his bakkie lives to see another day.
However, this lady at Red Mall in Centurion wasn’t so lucky:
As Intelligence Bureau SA has posted on Facebook, these brazen thieves managed to get away with the unsuspecting woman’s handbag.
*Sigh* If it’s not one thing, it’s another, huh?
Thankfully, no one was hurt during this theft.
Be careful out there, folks – not everyone can be like Nades and get away from situations like these unharmed.
