Who knows what state the world will be in when Donald Trump is ousted from the White House, but he will leave behind a remarkable ‘awkward handshake’ compilation.
A great compilation, a truly great compilation, people are saying it’s the best compilation – you know the drill.
My favourites are Macron, Putin, and that time the Polish First Lady gave him bat.
Anyway, North Korean state TV released a 40-odd minute video of the historic meeting between Trump and Lil’ Kim, and that included this footage below.
Is it a handshake or a salute? Donnie doesn’t seem to know:
I’m definitely into the laughing at the orange buffoon vibe, but it turns out military personnel are genuinely angered by Trump saluting a North Korean general.
CNN reports:
A US official told CNN that Trump was briefed on protocol, which is to not salute military officers from other countries. The White House, however, is not viewing Trump saluting a North Korean general as a mistake. It is being seen as all part of the broader goal that day, which was to show respect to Kim and his entourage, according to the official…
Retired Rear Adm. John Kirby, a military and diplomatic analyst for CNN, called the moment “striking.”
“They can see a propaganda value here and this is basically them showing the level of deference and respect that Trump has paid to them and to their military leaders,” Kirby told CNN’s Poppy Harlow on “CNN Newsroom.” “It was an inappropriate for him to do from a protocol perspective, but now he’s played right into the North’s propaganda about their legitimacy on the world stage.”
There was an uproar on Twitter, with politicians from both sides of the spectrum criticising Trump’s salute, but when isn’t there an uproar on Twitter?
I suppose once you’ve sanctioned ripping babies from their mothers whilst breastfeeding, hobnobbing with murderous regimes becomes just another walk in the park.
