If Robert De Niro has any problems, money definitely isn’t one of them.
On the contrary, because the legendary actor’s huge sushi restaurant and hotel business is set to be rolling in over R13 billion in revenue in the next five years.
I kid you not, folks: a report by Fortune explains that Nobu Hospitality LLC, the group founded by De Niro, chef Nobu Matsuhisa [pictured above, left], and movie producer Meir Tepe will be looking to expand into the condo business:
The first Nobu condos are due to be built in Toronto, on top of the city’s existing Nobu restaurant. They will comprise 660 units and 36 luxury-hotel suites. The group hopes to complete the project in 30 months. All of the units have already been sold – they sold out within three months of the project’s announcement last year.
That’s incredible news for the Godfather, whose empire has conquered more than 40 locations since it was founded back in 1994.
But the buyers had to cough up a pretty decent amount of green to be part of the man’s ever-growing kingdom:
Trevor Horwell, CEO of Nobu Hospitality, told Bloomberg that the project might cost as much as R3 billion to complete. The units average R11 million, and the hotel rooms are expected to cost R10 500 per night.
If you were too late to get in on the action, Nobu Holdings are already looking beyond Canada:
Following Toronto, the group has plans in place for two more mixed-use developments in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Los Cabos, Mexico. Bloomberg reports that it is also seeking out other opportunities in Asia, with the aim of establishing ten such developments in the next ten years. This is in addition to a target of five new hotels and restaurants per year.
But the global domination doesn’t end there: the group eventually hopes to build a resort as well, with its eyes reportedly set on Bermuda.
Yup, life is certainly full of fortunes for De Niro – although that “Fuck Trump” incident might see some turn their noses up at his restaurants.
Go forth and conquer.
