The royal wedding has come and gone, but for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, their honeymoon has only just begun, and they’re not spending it at some dingy hotel.
Nor at a Namibian safari lodge, and not at a Canadian cabin, as it was previously reported.
Nah, royal fans, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are enjoying themselves at a luxury castle straight out of a fairytale.
Here’s what it looks like up close:
My lord, I bet Disney princesses’ palaces don’t have anything on this.
According to OK!, before they return to royal duties next week, the newlyweds are said to be having a “mini-moon” at the 13th-century Ashford Castle in Cong, which is in Ireland’s County Mayo.
Now a five-star luxury hotel, Ashford Castle has hosted the likes of Oscar Wilde, Princess Grace of Monaco, and Brad Pitt.
But it’s not cheap, of course: rooms at the castle cost anywhere from R10 000 to R70 000 a night.
Makes The Silo in Cape Town look cheap, although you won’t get cracking views of the Mother City at Ashford Castle.
This is what the royal couple are getting for their coins, per a report by The Telegraph:
All individually designed, the 82 rooms range from subdued lake-view suites in calming golds and creams to more boisterous bedrooms boldly finished in bright red and brash greens.
Rain being a regularly occurrence here, there’s also plenty to do indoors. The relaxation room at the hotel’s spa overlooks the River Cong; the 32-seater cinema is finished in plush red velvet and comes with its own vintage popcorn machine (The Quiet Man, filmed locally, is screened regularly).
The formal fine-dining George V restaurant serves a fusion of French and Irish cuisine; and no doubt Harry would appreciate a drink at The Prince of Wales Bar, dating from the 1800s and so called following a visit by its contemporary namesake, the future King George V.
Ja, I can imagine Prince Harry sipping on his drink while smoking with his James Bond lighter in this fancy bar set-up.
Hotel management is keeping mum on whether the lovebirds are confirmed to be nesting at their establishment. But as The Telegraph reports:
The hotel has no availability tonight or tomorrow and access to the grounds have been severely restricted.
Yup, I guess they’re bloody well there alright.
Happy mini-mooning, you crazy rich kids.
