Thank God for South Africans who are managing to make light of a helluva bleak situation.
The Department of Energy’s June steep fuel-price hike hit on Wednesday, giving plenty of motorists across the country a reason to weep.
The hike saw an increase of 82 cents per litre for petrol, and between 85 and 87 cents per litre for diesel, reports Huffington Post SA.
So now we’re paying R15,54 for 93 Unleaded Petrol, R15,79 for 95 unleaded petrol, and R14,19 for diesel.
*Sob, sob, wails*
Naturally, South African motorists are gatvol about the whole thing, expressing anger and frustration on social media.
Even Mmusi Maimane is riding around in taxis these days, so you know the struggle is real.
But then you get the precious few individuals in the Twitterverse making memes and jokes aplenty about the price hike, trying to make us laugh until we cry.
Take a look at their creative efforts:
Keep dreaming that your imaginary car’s tank is above the half-full mark – not everyone will be as lucky as you.
Ooh, where can I get one of these?
That’ll win me over, alright. That, and water.
Goodbye Mercedes, hello bike.
Ja no, the Ramaphosa era is only getting started but there’s a very wayward ship to turn around.
Some food for thought before we go:
So there you have it, friends. Even though the petrol price hike is going to doom us all, at least we have the ability to laugh at ourselves.
Bless and curse this darn country.
