I’m not saying you have a drinking problem, but who wouldn’t want a free drink every day at some of Cape Town’s finest joints?
Pick me.
What’s more, all you need to start clinking glasses is an app called, rather aptly, Clink.
Following on from resounding successes in major cities around the world, Cape Town now joins the growing list of cities that offer app users one free drink per day at all the top venues.
Let’s play a quick numbers game – what does a drink cost you at a bar these days? I’ll go with R45 or so, which means if you’re going out 10 times in a month your first bevvie is setting you back R450.
You’re smart, and you love a discount, so how about wiping out the cost of that free drink entirely? That’s where Clink comes in, because their monthly subscription costs just R90.
You could essentially rack up 30 drinks for R90 a month – well done, you.
Better yet, it’s FREE for seven days, so you can take the app for a spin before you commit to anything.
We are talking about Cape Town, after all, which means there’s a 93% chance you’re afraid of commitment. I know you find that trial period appealing.
If you’re feeling extra nice, you might even gift someone a 12-months subscription for Clink and save 50%. That’s 365 drinks for R540, pal.
It’s not for all the dinky, basement pubs either, because here are some of the venues that are already on board with Clink:
Nomad Bistro, Van Hunks, Black Irish, Botany Gin & Bubbles, Copper Club Tygerwaterfront, Copper Club Newlands, Café Roux, Fat Cactus – Gardens, Woodstock and Mowbray, Orphanage Cocktail Emporium, Persies Tavern, President Hotel, Slug & Lettuce Long Street, The Mash Tun, The Village Bistro – Durbanville and Paarl, The Stud Burger & Saloon, Trenchtown, Therapy Restaurant, The Royal Oak, The Beach Tavern, The Dry Dock, Café Obrigado, Forex Bar, Inside on the Greens, La Bella Rosa, Casa Woodstock, Driftwood Café, EJ’s Strand, Lighthouse on Loxton, El Mariachi, Sangrita Arcade, Peacock Indian Fusion, Portuguese Taverna, Saul’s Grill, Remex Mexican, Bombshelter Brewery…
Van Hunks, the Mash Tun, Forex Bar, etc – the hipsters can play along, and more venues are continuously being added.
Here’s the bit that I dig – you can come back to the same venue each day for another free drink, so even if you’re not the type to explore your options you’re still winning.
You can also share your unique code with friends in exchange for up to three months of free drinks.
A quick how-to guide:
Well, that sounds pretty easy, but let’s spell it out really clearly for those at the back.
The app opens with a list view of Clink venues, sorted by the distance from where you are, so you will always see your nearest Clink venue first.
Browse the venues and the free drinks they offer, and then go to the venue using the “Get Directions” button from the app. That may come in handy when you’re already a few sheets to the wind, so don’t scoff at it just yet.
Choose your free drink, show the bartender your phone, and enjoy your free drink.
Every day. Nice.
Worth a punt on the seven-day free trial, at the very least, so I’ll see you fine people at the bar.
