Wow, Benedict Cumberbatch is the real-life superhero that we mere mortals don’t deserve.
Seriously, did y’all expect the guy to jump out of an Uber to save someone from an attempted mugging? No, I didn’t think so.
But that’s exactly what happened, though: back in November last year, the Patrick Melrose star and his wife Sophie Hunter were reportedly taking an Uber to a club when the actor spotted a delivery cyclist being attacked by four suspicious characters, reports CNBC.
Yeah, November last year, but the news only broke recently when eyewitnesses came forward.
Cumberbatch jumped out of the vehicle, entered the fray and pulled the men away from the bloodied cyclist.
The delivery man was reportedly hit over the head with a bottle and his own helmet before Cumberbatch was able to pull him away from the muggers, and the muggers tried to punch the actor as well before fleeing the scene.
As to why he intervened in the first place, Cumberbatch tells The Sun, “I did it out of — well, I had to, you know.” When asked by The New York Times to say more, Cumberbatch declined.
Brave and modest – you gotta love him.
A reminder that you can generate your own Benedict-esque name here, if you’re bored at work.
