It looks like South Africa is fast becoming known for the number of rants that make the news.
From Vicki Momberg’s tirade to a woman who lost her cool while dealing with Telkom, you would think people would get tired of watching all these meltdowns caught on camera.
Apparently not.
A video that’s currently doing the rounds on social media shows an enraged Pretoria woman hurling insults at a white woman, with whom she got into an altercation, and a couple of police officers who attended the scene:
And believe me when I say she is worked up:
The woman is seen hurling verbal insults at a white woman [who does not appear in the video], saying “she messed with the wrong b****. You will see what happens when you find out who the f*** I am.” …
The woman seems to be shouting at another woman … calling her an “uneducated c**t”.
She continues to call her a “piece of white sh*t and retarded white b***h”.
Yikes. Them’s fighting words, alright. Everyone knows you’re only allowed to call Ivanka Trump the c-bomb.
According to News24, the video of the incident – which occurred over the weekend in the Lyttelton area – has gone viral, and it’s already accumulated over 90 000 hits on YouTube alone.
We shouldn’t have to warn you that there’s strong language ahead:
That’s hectic stuff.
As you saw from the video, the woman didn’t hold back on the officers, either:
Directing her anger at the officers, she tells them that they are all uneducated “pieces of sh*t”.
She tells the police that, “as for most of us, we have masters (degrees), b***h motherf****r”. She goes on to say, “b***h, you think this is your mother who sold us for R20 … And I am telling you this will be on national television”.
At some stage, the woman is held back by the police, while she continues with her verbal onslaught. She then refers to the police as uneducated “pieces of s***.”
Ja no, this is giving off Vicki Momberg vibes. Or perhaps it’s a drunken incident that went too far?
The people of Twitter are divided about whether or not this is a racist rant:
Yup, it’s an ongoing debate among mature individuals and, um, not so mature individuals (“rassism”, I can’t …).
One thing is for sure – News24 are doing their utmost to avoid branding it racist, although the Citizen just straight up ask “Is this woman the black Vicki Momberg?”:
The issue of black racism in South Africa is a contentious one, with some black people arguing that due to structural oppression, white supremacy and South Africa’s history of apartheid and colonisation, black people can’t be racist.
Some sharing the post of the “black Vicki Momberg” are arguing that it is equivalent to Momberg’s crime. These voices include Afriforum’s Kallie Kriel.
We hesitate to quote Afrirforum here, but this recording from Kriel hasn’t been bleeped out. Very strong language below:
Warning re foul language: Will this anti-white racist join Vicki Momberg in jail? Will it lead to a public outcry? The answer is no, because the “mainstream” media and “commentators” only focus on anti-black racism and condone anti-white racism. #DoubleStandards #AntiWhiteRacism pic.twitter.com/4ZA09YViUy

Raging.
Back to the Citizen and the Momberg comparison:
The idea that South African media only focusses on hate speech directed against black people seems to have struck a chord on social media, with many mainly white people asking if the incident will be covered as widely in the media as Momberg’s outburst was…
Whether or not she will be prosecuted like the white woman she has been compared to remains to be seen.
Captain Dave Miller commented on the external and internal investigations:
We are currently busy with an investigation into the matter. Once we have been able to complete our investigation and establish exactly what transpired, we will then be in a better position to comment.
Grab the popcorn, because there’s plenty of arguing to follow at every step of this investigation.
