Enjoy might not be the right word, but here we are nonetheless.
Yes indeed, yesterday saw fellow reality stars Donald Trump and Kim Kardashian West hanging out in the Oval Office.
I suppose Trump has been promising a meeting with Kim for a while now, and the other reality TV star’s motives were actually pretty decent.
Kim was reportedly there to ask for a pardon for Alice Marie Johnson, a 63-year-old woman serving a life sentence for a first-time non-violent drug offence.
At present Johnson (below with her daughter) has been in jail since 1997, and will spend the rest of her life behind bars unless Trump grants her the pardon.
Here’s the thing – he’ll probably do it, but it won’t be because he cares one iota for Johnson or her grievances.
Both of these people are experts at leveraging their brands, so I consider this a trade-off. Trump will pardon Johnson, and the whole thing will be shown on Kim’s TV show, and her Instagram, and her Snapchat, and so on and so forth.
Maybe Kim’s fans, many of whom might not be avid followers of the news, will think that this Trump guy doesn’t seem all that bad.
Hey, Kim’s husband Kanye is a big fan, and now Kim’s meeting with him, so MAGA and all that garbage.
Here are Kim K’s tweets on the matter:
And the Donald:
2018, how has it come to this?
Now I dislike Kim more than most people, but she seems to be trying to do good, even if it’s all tied into self-promotion.
Many feel the same way, which is why this New York Post cover has come in for serious stick:
‘The other big ass summit’ is an interesting take, but overall that pun game is pretty strong.
The NY Daily News ran with a similar front page, but focused more on ripping the Donald:
That concludes another day of wondering what the hell is happening over in America.
Your guess is as good as mine.
