Nothing beats a holiday sailing on the high seas, but obviously you don’t want to be floating about on the ocean in a tiny little yacht or a wee cruise ferry.
Nah, friends, what you’re probably looking for is a luxury liner that’s got all the bells and whistles: free shows, plenty of restaurants, first-class cabins, activities for you and the kiddies … you name it, they’ve got to have it.
Oh, and it’s gotta be big.
Like, Titanic BIG. Something that’ll make your friends back home green with envy that you got to travel across the blue horizon in super style.
Well, according to this report by CNN, these are the top five biggest cruise ships in the world that are currently plying the planet’s waters.
You’ll see that four of these names are pretty similar because they’re “sister ships”, built according to the same specifications with only minor differences between them.
Namely size, of course.
Let’s take a look, shall we?
5. MSC Meraviglia
This is the baby of the bunch, weighing over 17 million kilograms, standing at over 315 metres in length with the ability to carry 5 714 people.
Among the signature features of this vessel, which heads to the United States in 2019, is the exclusive agreement MSC Cruises has with the Cirque du Soleil, which performs on board 12 times a week.
Fittingly for a ship, whose primary area of operations is the Mediterranean, the Meraviglia has its own branch of Eataly, the famous Italian delicatessen chain, and a 262-foot [80 metre] LED Sky Mediterranean-style indoor promenade open 24 hours a day
4. Oasis of the Seas
The smallest of the four sister ships, Oasis is still heavy. It weighs over 228 million kilograms, can accommodate nearly 6 800 people, and its crew comprises 2 100 people.
[Oasis] also held the deepest high dive pool ever to sail. As for on board entertainment, guests were treated to exclusive performances of Broadway musical “Hairspray.”
That’s high-class entertainment right there.
3. Allure of the Seas
But if you’re into the musical Chicago, or if you want to meet characters from Shrek and Madagascar, cruise ship Allure is the more alluring option, if you get my drift.
It boasts 25 dining options, four pools and 10 whirlpools, and can accommodate up to 6 687 people.
No wonder the damn thing weighs nearly 229 million kilograms.
2. Harmony of the Seas
This R18 billion ship weighs a staggering 230 million kilograms, with a maximum capacity of 6 687. Its most well-known feature? The Ultimate Abyss slide, which transports guest down 10 decks at 14km per hour.
Sounds like fun, but then there’s the biggest sister of them all …
1. Symphony of the Seas
Ship? More like a 231 million kilogram mini metropolis.
Organised into seven neighbourhoods (yes, flipping neighbourhoods!), Symphony comprises of 18 decks (of which 16 are for guest use), 22 restaurants, 24 pools, 2 759 cabins, and a park with over 20 000 tropical plants. Plus, it’s equipped with the world’s tallest water slide at sea.
I’m surprised it doesn’t come with a damn roller coaster.
S,o if you’re looking for a perfect ocean getaway, look no further than these five cruise ship giants.
Bon voyage!
