So Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made their first official public appearance as a married couple at an event, and some cheeky bee went and upstaged them in the most audacious way possible.
Not that Markle was miffed or anything – in fact, she had quite a laugh at her husband’s expense when he became the target of the bee’s ire.
In a report by Bustle, the couple appeared at Prince Charles’ 70th Birthday Patronage Celebration at Buckingham Palace in London last Tuesday. Prince Harry was tasked with giving a speech to honour his dad – or “pa”, as he likes to call him, apparently:
Pa, I was again struck by the range and diversity of the work which you are involved with. It is your selfless drive to affect change, whether that is to improve the lives of those who are on the wrong path, to save an important piece of our national heritage or to protect a particular species under threat, which William and I draw inspiration from every day.
Breaks your heart, doesn’t it?
That’s when a bothersome little bee appeared out of nowhere and hijacked Harry’s moment.
Here’s a video of the attack (around about the 4:36 mark):
Heh heh, the ambush is just as hilarious as that bad lip-reading video of the royal wedding, wouldn’t you say?
Still, goodness knows what goes on in the inner workings of a bee’s mind. However, I’m guessing that the critter wasn’t feeling the Duke of Sussex’s gushing tribute to his pa, and decided to stop it right there and then.
Well, the sabotage attempt worked, as Prince Harry stopped his speech and tried to swat the damn thing away. You know, despite talking about how he was inspired by his pa’s drive to protect species under threat literally two seconds before.
Still, at least he apologised (not to the bee, though – to the audience about buggering up his speech).
Meanwhile, Markle reacted appropriately to the situation:
Yup, that’s totally how I would react if I saw someone I love getting blindsided by a pesky bee. Seriously, I’d laugh my face off.
Even her step-mother-in-law, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, had a little titter.
Per the report:
As for Charles, he appeared to be out of the loop, so Markle leaned over and seemed to fill in her father-in-law on the unintentionally funny moment just delivered by his son.
Pa, or Prince Charles, looked just as amused.
There you have it, friends. This is proof that royals are just like us commoners – they do have the ability to have a lekker lag.
And it’s all thanks to a bloody bee.
