In the wake of the hectic bombing of two cash-in-transit vans in Boksburg last week, people around the country are definitely keeping track of the developing case with judging eyes.
The five arrested men, who were allegedly involved in the brazen attack and caught by police after a dramatic car chase, appeared in the Boksburg Magistrates Court on Monday: they are Paul Sibanda‚ 48‚ Sibusiso Khumalo‚ 34‚ Collen Habede‚ 42‚ and Thabo Molefe‚ 32, according to a report by Times LIVE.
But it’s the youngest suspect – Thato Gaopantwe, aged 26 (pictured above) – who has an *sarcastic voice* impressive résumé to his name.
That’s if the bold claims on his online profile are anything to go by.
Observe the screenshot of Gaopantwe’s, er, credentials. There seems to be confusion as to how his name is spelt, with media outlets going with Gaopantwe, but the Facebook profile dropping the ‘n’.
From his profile, self-employed CEO Gaopantwe apparently studied “money laundering” at the “Skool of Hard Knoxs” in Adelaide, South Australia in 2013.
So if all else fails, we can blame our crime problem on Australia, folks.
Gaopantwe also claimed to have studied “Skill‚ Speed‚ Endurance‚ Saving Money and Your Mom” at Howard Community College in Maryland, USA back in 2005.
Ja, I don’t think a community college would offer such a problematic course.
Per the report by Times LIVE:
Updates usually show him buying designer clothes in Sandton or at Mall of Africa‚ or depict him standing next to a brand new luxury German SUV he claims to have bought …
A picture taken from his arrest shows a distinctive large tattoo on his upper left arm. The same tattoo is visible on his Facebook photos.
Eish man, Gaopantwe.
He was reportedly arrested last Friday by the police (as seen in the video below – be warned, the content might be distressing to sensitive viewers).
JMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar told Times LIVE:
Out of the five suspects one was arrested by the JMPD [Johannesburg Metro Police Department]. On Saturday, they recovered a red Audi with heavy calibre weapons‚ AK-47 and R5 and ammunition for these weapons‚ and a revolver.
Again, eish man, Gaopantwe. Way to keep it low-key.
South Africans were literally all over him when they found who he was at his Tuesday court appearance:
By midday on Tuesday, the South African public was onto [Gaopantwe] – and hundreds of laughing emojis and comments jabbing at his misfortune followed.
Some people immediately condemned him‚ posting photos of his arrest underneath his last post – a picture of him dated May 13 in Sandton‚ captioned “Gucci Gang Gang”‚ apparently referring to his expensive looking clothes.
Some called for the expropriation of his designer clothing‚ others crudely offered words of advice for the time he will be spending in the Boksburg correctional services centre until his and his fellow gang members’ next court appearance on Monday.
We South Africans have jokes, huh?
Gaopantwe and the other suspects are facing numerous charges including attempted murder‚ armed robbery‚ robbery with aggravating circumstances‚ possession of unlicensed firearms‚ and possession of explosives and ammunition, and damage to property.
If I were Gaopantwe, I definitely wouldn’t want to add this to my résumé.
