Jislaaik. Imagine waiting for your train, and along comes this burning heap rolling casually into the station.
For passengers … well, let’s hope they got their money back after this.
A train pulled into a station with two carriages engulfed in flames in Cape Town earlier this morning, forcing passengers to evacuate for their lives, according to Times LIVE.
Take a look at this train as it rides into Retreat station aflame:
Scary stuff.
Twitter user Rob Breezy got up close and personal with the fiery carriages as he captured this footage:

Flippin’ scary stuff.
According to Metrorail spokesperson Riana Scott, the fire on board the train that was en route to Simonstown managed to gut two carriages, while the adjoining two suffered minor damages. As for the passengers themselves:
Preliminary reports from the scene indicate that all commuters on board were evacuated at Retreat station. No injuries were reported. The high voltage overhead power [was] switched off to enable the fire brigade to extinguish the fire and our train crew separated the burning carriages from the rest of the train to prevent further damage.
Thank the Lord. But now what about the fire? Scott said:
The fire was doused at 09:45h. Both lines were initially closed but one has subsequently been reopened after safety checks‚ and trains were diverted. Final mopping up operations will commence as soon as the forensic teams have completed their investigation and the damaged carriages will be taken to the depot for further investigation and assessment by Prasa’s loss adjusters.
It is not yet possible to say what the cost of the damage is going to be.
Perhaps this is an understatement of epic proportions, but I’ll go ahead and say it anyway: I’m gonna guess that the cost is going to be a helluva lot.
Nothing about how the fire started, though, but we’ll keep you in the loop.
Stay safe out there, my train-taking friends.
