Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding was a posh, formal affair with many Hollywood celebrities – not to mention the prince’s ex-girlfriends – in attendance.
But the wedding reception sounded like a real lekker jol.
The newly-titled Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with their 200 guests, were able to let their hair down and go absolutely befok as they partied the night away at the reception, which took place at Frogmore House, the Daily Beast reports.
Here’s how it went down after the newly-weds left nearby Windsor Castle:
Yep, they look ready to party, alright.
Especially Harry. Look at that determined face.
They took off in a fancy Jaguar E-Type Concept Zero and zoomed off to Frogmore House, as seen in this video:
If you didn’t notice it the first time, the Jag’s number plate bore the date of the wedding – E190518.
C-U-T-E.
And check out the bling that Markle was rocking: the aquamarine ring, given to her by her husband, previously belonged to his late mother, Princess Diana.
Dawww.
Among the illustrious guests/party-goers – who arrived at the reception in private cars and a double decker bus, nogal – were (pictured below) tennis star Serena Williams, actress Priyanka Chopra, Prince Harry’s exes Cressida Bonas and Chelsea Davy, and TV personality James Corden, who served as the compere that held the evening entertainment together, reported The Daily Mail.
An eclectic bunch, for sure. Guaranteed fun times ahead.
And here’s Frogmore House, where it all went down:
The perfect place to have a jol, right?
Per The Telegraph:
[Prince Harry and Markle] were welcomed into a glass marquee in the grounds for a sit-down meal, emotional speeches and a wide range of music.
Hosted officially by the Prince of Wales, the evening saw younger members of the Royal family mixing casually with Hollywood’s finest, who were banned from taking their mobile phones for fear of incriminating evidence of the party leaking out.
Although we have an idea of how indiscreet it got, courtesy of the Daily Beast:
Prince Charles’ speech reportedly had the guests laughing as he reminisced about feeding Harry his bottle and changing his nappy, William’s speech was said to be ‘cheeky’ and the bride-to-be used hers to thank her new in-laws for welcoming them to the family.
Awkward for Harry! But, as The Sunday Morning Herald also reports, Markle broke tradition and made her own speech, “sweetly complimenting her new husband and expressing her joy at being welcomed into his family”.
Adorbs.
Some of the food sounds dodgy, though:
Guests tucked into candyfloss and “dirty burgers”—washed down with a cocktail featuring ginger and rum named When Harry Met Meghan in an apparent nod to Harry’s red hair and the film When Harry met Sally, Mail Online reports.
So inventive.
Then someone ordered over a dozen pizzas, which were hauled up to Windsor Castle:
I bet those cocktails made the guests really hungry.
Luckily, the actual sit-down dinner – paid for by the Prince of Wales – was organic, while the canapes were themed “spring meets summer.”
Appropriate for the more rigid guests *cough* Queen Elizabeth *cough*.
Then the couple’s “excellent choice in music” made itself known, added The Sunday Morning Herald:
Then, as the dancing started, the Duke and Duchess … led the way. The newlyweds are said to have eschewed a slow first dance for livelier tunes, and are reported to have chosen Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” as an opener to a selection of soul classics …
The Daily Mail confirmed that Sir Elton John did indeed perform at the wedding, as many bookies and royal fanatics rightly predicted, singing a medley of his hits including “Your Song”, “Tiny Dancer”, “Circle Of Life” and “I’m Still Standing”.
But the music didn’t end there, no:
In the early hours, soul music gave way to hits from the ’80s and ’90s, with the Eurythmics and Madonna’s Holiday being spun by guest DJ for the night, A-list film star Elba.
So if you guys are looking to hire out a DJ, Idris Elba is your guy.
The evening ended off with a stunning fireworks display over Frogmore House:
Well, not quite ended off, revealed The Daily Mail:
Guests are also understood to have returned to London late last night for an ‘after-after party’ at celebrity favourite Chiltern Firehouse in Marylebone. Another party had been planned in a soundproofed private home in Chelsea.
I’m sure those parties were pretty crazy, too.
A great wedding, and an even greater reception, wouldn’t you say?
