After the lavish, star-studded wedding ceremony took place, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle opted for a classic ride to get to their wedding reception.
According to a report by the Independent:
The royal newlyweds made their way from Windsor Castle to Frogmore House in a stylish silver blue Jaguar E-Type Concept Zero, an electric version of the 1968 British classic
The modern £350,000 [R6,071 million] vehicle came complete with a bespoke licence plate, bearing the date of the wedding.
Classic AND cute.
Take a look at the Concept Zero in action:
What a way to make a stylish arrival.
The Telegraph reports that the pair had “travelled in traditional fashion, with the Duchess arriving at St George’s Chapel in a 1950 Rolls-Royce Phantom IV and then the couple making their way from the ceremony in a horse-drawn open-top Ascot Landau for a carriage”.
Super posh, huh?
Then, after changing into more comfortable clothing, Prince Harry and Markle slipped into the E-Type and drove over to Frogmore House for a jol.
Let’s take a peep under the hood and see what this car’s all about, shall we?
Per the Independent:
An environmentally-friendly choice, the open-top car is nearly silent and can go up to 60mph in just 5.5 seconds and is kitted with a 220kW engine.
“Concept Zero combines the renowned E-type dynamic experience with enhanced performance through electrification,” said Tim Hannig, Director of Jaguar Land Rover Classic.
“This unique combination creates a breathtaking driving sensation.
Mixing traditional and modern styles, the E-Type was based on the D-Type racing car which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three years running from 1955.
A huge commercial success and a motoring icon in the 1960s, even Enzo Ferrari has said that the E-Type is “the most beautiful car in the world”.
Good for them.
The Concept Zero was engineered by Jaguar Classic at Classic Works in Warwickshire as part of Jaguar’s efforts to electrify every new model in its range by 2020.
The car manufacturer’s efforts come as the government announced in July that it plans to ban all petrol and diesel cars by 2040 to tackle air pollution.
As Jaguar’s website states, Concept Zero uses advanced, zero-emission powertrain technology, which could explain why Markle and Prince Harry opted to drive this car:
The Duchess is known to be eco-conscious and has been seen wearing environmentally sustainable fashion items from British designer Stella McCartney and company Huit Denim.
The Duke is also known to have the environment close to his heart. The Prince of Wales revealed in his interview with the Duke for Radio 4 in December, that he was “proud” his son had adopted his concern for ecological issues.
Thank you for thinking of the planet on your big day, you two.
