Celebrity spotters, rejoice!
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding on Saturday looked more like a star-studded Oscars extravaganza, as Hollywood A-listers crowded St. George’s Church in Windsor before the ceremony.
From friends of the newly-titled Duke and Duchess of Sussex to reps of their favourite charities, these are the celebs who graced the special occasion in their best British royal wedding gear (not to mention those freakin’ hats):
Oprah Winfrey arrived wearing this sensational pink Stella McCartney number and rocked some fancy, feathery headgear, according to The Daily Beast. She is said to have spent six hours with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, in preparation for a forthcoming interview.
Looking dapper there, James Blunt!
The Daily Mail reports that singer, who’s best known for the cheesy hit “You’re Beautiful”, is pretty to close to Harry through his former career as a captain in the Army, where he saw action in Kosovo. And like the prince, Blunt is also a huge supporter of charity works for veterans.
Both George and Amal Clooney looked glamorous and adorable for days (can we acknowledge the colour coordination of their outfits, please?). Per The Daily Mail:
[George] Clooney, 57, may have endeared himself to Harry through his charity work, which focuses on human rights in the developing world. Like the prince, the Hollywood star is one half of a transatlantic couple, being married to Amal Clooney. The 40-year-old British human rights lawyer combines high glamour and designer dresses with work on serious international legal issues.
Tennis ace Serena Williams and her hubby Alexis Ohanian were dressed to the nines for the event.
Still, I can’t help but think that Williams’ pink Versace dress and sculptured hat looks a little too similar to Winfrey’s ensemble *sips tea*.
Williams has known Meghan since at least 2014, when the future duchess invited her to take part in the ice bucket challenge. #FriendshipGoals
I dunno about you, but Victoria Beckham looked like she was going to a funeral instead of a wedding. Still looks posh, though.
Anyway, she and retired footballer husband David know the couple quite well through their philanthropic activities. Plus, Victoria is setting up home in a group of converted barns close to the Soho Farmhouse, Oxfordshire; Meghan has visited the private club, and spent weekends with Harry in a ‘love nest’ nearby.
Ooh, sounds spicy …
James Corden and his wife Julia Carey (I’m sensing a theme with these pink dresses) also made an appearance. The Daily Mail reckons that the love-him-or-hate-him TV personality has enjoyed many a boozy night out with Prince Harry.
Hey, here’s Tom Hardy and his wife Charlotte Riley in a floral number! How did they get an invite? The Daily Mail has the scoop:
The British actor, 40, found fame despite being a crack addict in his 20s. He and Harry share the same birthday, seven years apart, and may have met when the prince attended the premiere of Dark Knight Rises in London six years ago.
Great story.
Carey Mulligan, also donning a floral dress, has a lot in common with Prince Harry and Markle as she has worked for the War Child charity in the Congo and her older brother has served in the Army in Iraq and Afghanistan. She is also married to Marcus Mumford, lead singer of Mumford and Sons.
The Daily Beast reported that they were later seen yawning after they arrived.
Rude.
Elton John and his husband David Furnish looked incredibly smart. Also, if you bet that John performed at the wedding reception, you’ve definitely earned a pretty penny – apparently he performed “Circle of Life” from The Lion King.
Huh, I would have chosen Can You Feel The Love Tonight, but that’s just me.
Again with the floral!
Singer-songwriter Joss Stone is an ambassador for the Sentebale charity that Prince Harry created to help Aids orphans in Lesotho, and sang at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations six years ago.
And of course, it wouldn’t be a royal wedding without the rest of the royal family:
Markle’s mother Doria Ragland (left), Harry’s father Prince Charles (middle), and wife Camilla Parker Bowles (right) looked swagalicious AF.
And if there was an award for best hat, Parker Bowles would have won the thing, it looked so epic.
Pippa Middleton (left, with husband James Matthews) and her sister Kate (right, with husband Prince William and children George and Charlotte) kept it low-key in their simple dresses.
No bums to steal the show.
And look – Prince Harry’s ex-girlfriends were there, too! How nice of the guy to invite Chelsea Davy (right) and Cressida Bonas (left) to partake in his special day, wouldn’t you agree?
There you have it, friends. The wedding’s done and dusted, and we got to see virtually all of Hollywood turning up at the event.
Better than the Oscars, though? Maybe.
