Seven people have been arrested in connection with a brazen bomb attack on two cash-in-transit vans, which took place in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni on Thursday.
According to a report by Times LIVE, five suspects were chased by a police helicopter after a hectic gunfight took place during the heist on Atlas Road. They were then caught at the George Goch hostel in Johannesburg.
In another breakthrough in their investigation, the police made two further arrests, bringing to seven the number of suspects linked to the heist, reported EWN.
The heist was caught on camera, and it’s definitely shocking stuff:
Bloody insane madness.
A bullet-ridden mess was left in the aftermath of the heist and the subsequent shoot-out. Two security guards were injured and taken to hospital. One was shot in the leg, while the other sustained minor injuries to the head during the shoot-out.
The bomb squad was called to the scene to deal with the evidence while the police spent hours picking up leftover cash.
Some more footage to shake things up – we hope Andrea is OK and not stressing herself:

Jirre.
As for the cash-in-transit vans, well …
They won’t be going anywhere any time soon.
Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo told Times LIVE about how it all went down:
We also recovered a rifle after the cash-in-transit heist which happened at about 9.30AM. It is alleged that more than 10 suspects who were driving in four vehicles approached two G4S security vans.
They started shooting at the vans. Then there was a shoot-out between the security officers and the suspects. The suspects managed to blow up the cash vans and take some cash.
And then the chase was on:
We then got information and reacted. We managed to chase the suspects until at the George Goch hostel. It is at George Goch hostel where we managed to arrest these five suspects and recover a car that we suspect was used during the robbery.
As I’m talking to you‚ the operation is still underway because we believe that some of the suspects are still hiding at George Goch hostel and we hope that we will manage to arrest all of them.
With seven suspects in the bag, catching the last three should hopefully not be a problem,
Masondo reckons that cash-in-transit heists are becoming a serious problem in Gauteng:
It is a worry for us as the police with the number of cash-in-transit heist that we are encountering these days. But we’ve got measures in place [to deal with them]. Now that we have arrested these ones‚ it is a breakthrough and we believe that it [crime] will come down.
Yeah, we’ll hold you to that statement, Masondo.
Oh, by the way, one of the seven men arrested after the cash-in-transit heist in Boksburg, in the East Rand is a police officer.
