High heels for who? Not for Kristen Stewart.
The actress took to the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival screening of Spike Lee’s film BlacKkKlansman at Palais des Festivals in black Christian Louboutins pumps on Monday, reports Mashable.
Then, after striking a few poses for the camera, she ditched them completely and climbed the staircase barefoot.
That’s a memorable way to cause a stir.
What’s the reasoning? The festival’s ridiculous “no flats” policy forms part of the official dress-code which affects more women than it does men.
Back in 2015, a group of middle-aged women, some reportedly with medical issues, were even denied entry into a screening of Carol when they showed up in flats.
Bloody stupid.
Stewart thinks so, too. She’s especially critical of the red carpet’s heels-only policy for women. According to TIME, she said at a roundtable discussion last year:
Things have to change immediately. It’s just like you simply cannot ask me to do something that you are not asking him [to do]. I get the black-tie thing but you should be able to do either version—flats or heels.
We hear you, Kristen!
The Twitterverse have also applauded Stewart for her rebellious act:
And if the Cannes organisers don’t like it, they can strap on their heels and hobble on outta here.
