The final of the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday night got out of hand when a man stormed onto the main stage and interrupted UK entrant SuRie’s performance.
According to the organisers of the European Broadcasting Union, the invader – who goes by the handle Dr ACactivism and styles himself as “a philosopher, activist and DJ/MC” – made his way to the stage via a bridge while pursued by security, reports Sky News.
Take a look at the video (’round about the 1:40 mark):
Eish. That was ugly.
And in case you can’t make out Dr ACactivism’s words, he was shouting something along the lines of “Nazis of the UK media, we demand our freedom”.
*Face-palms* This world that we live in, I swear …
A spokesman for the show said:
[Dr ACactivism] was removed off stage after seven seconds and was questioned by police. We take security very seriously and an investigation into what happened is already underway…
SuRie remained on stage and clapped along to the music of her song Storm as the man was dragged away by security.
Brave lady. Too bad she came 24th out of 26 in the contest.
Thing is, this isn’t the first time that Dr ACactivism has pulled such a stunt.
In April 2017, he crashed the stage during the final of The Voice while holding up a piece of paper that was meant for viewers to read.
Before the audience could read the message, he was tackled and removed offstage by security staff, who he says nearly broke his neck. The claim was made in one of seven eBooks that he’s authored called “My Struggle for the Freedom of Ideas Against the Corrupted Murdering Nazis of the Big Mainstream Media like the ITV: Murdering Nazis of the Big Mainstream Media”.
Not exactly a subtle hint about his feelings towards the media.
But clearly the bloody fool didn’t learn his lesson from the incident when he tried to invade the stage at the National Television Awards while the nominees for the Bruce Forsyth Entertainment award were read out. Luckily, presenter Dermot O’Leary was able to remove him from the stage without him making it on television.
For anyone who hasn’t seen me disrupting @OfficialNTAs I said to D O’Leary @radioleary who works for the Nazis of @BBC “Are you Awarding criminals? Oppression of Ideas is not Freedom.” Despite disrupting them in front of 75000 people. Still they didn’t invite Me at @BBC DICTATORS pic.twitter.com/oIB72BsK66

Dr ACactivism posted a video on Twitter explaining why he tried to do this (we tried to find the video in question, but it looks like it’s disappeared – due to the graphic nature of his Twitter account, it’s probably for the best not to go seeking it out):
The artists and the journalists of the UK media are working with a philosophy that says control and oppress. So they control every institution that has to do with ideas, from the big media to social media, movie theatres, cinemas, book companies and so on.
So I, Dr AC, disrupted them for social justice, that is the freedom of ideas, the right of participation, and the right of being heard.
And what a wonderful job you did, snowflake *sarcasm activated*.
