High fives to the Sisters of the Valley, a group of nuns who grow marijuana crops in Merced, California.
Technically they’re not nuns, because they’re not affiliated to any traditional religious order, but that hasn’t stopped them being dubbed ‘the nuns with guns’.
Why do they need guns? Well, if you’re growing that ‘erb you have to watch out for local drug cartels, as well as the California state Bureau of Medical Cannabis Regulation.
Here’s how Variety sum up the doccie:
The women produce cannabidiol tinctures and salves which they sell online through an Etsy store…
Focusing on head nun Sister Kate, Salon describes “Breaking Habits” as the story of a woman caught up in a modern day Wild West, determined to heal her community and put independence back in the hands of women. The documentary is written and directed by Rob Ryan.
Light it up:
The ‘nuns’ are actually in Cannes right now to promote the film, and have secured pre-sales with Mongrel Media for Canada, Icon Films for Australia and Frenetic Films for Switzerland.
Maybe they’ll bump into the most beautiful girl in the world.
Just wondering aloud here, but what’s killed more people – marijuana, or that other drug called religion?
