Before Meghan Markle met Prince Harry, her love-life was far from boring.

No really, she really got around with some … “interesting” people.

Taking her cue from the famous love self-help book The Rules, Markle took her mission to find Mr Right very seriously, according to News.com.au:

Meghan used to quote The Rules all the time and really put it into practice with a number of her boyfriends.

She was never without a boyfriend for more than two or three months and always striving to have someone by her side.

It’s reported that Markle ended up dating six different guys before she got together with her dashing prince.

Let’s check out the fellas who later fell out of love with Markle, shall we?

This here’s actor and screenwriter Shaun Zaken. He wooed Markle for six months back in 2003 when they were both university students. Due to his own commitment issues, his girlfriend noped out of their relationship.

These days, Zaken is writing comedies, and he recently wrote a show last year about a fairytale Prince Charming landing in modern-day Los Angeles. Hmm, I wonder if that’s a dig at Prince Harry?

After Zaken was kicked to the curb, Markle dated another writer and actor, Brett Ryland. Their relationship lasted a mere five months, a source explained:

Brett adored Meghan. He was constantly trying to shower her with love and she enjoyed the attention, but she seemed to be in it more for the affirmation.

He didn’t have the kind of bravado or high profile she was looking for in a partner. He tried hard but there wasn’t much glamour or huge chemistry.

Ouch. Poor Ryland. He’s now living it up in Los Angeles, having written for the TV show Two Broke Girls before working as a content media manager for a social media firm.

Markle fell for this chap during her first year at Northwestern University in 1999. His name’s Steve Lapore, and he was a “tall, dark, handsome all-American” who was a college basketball star. Sounds like a keeper, hey?

But after five months, Lapore transferred from Northwestern University to a college in North Carolina, and that was the end of that. Lapore, 38, is now married with a baby daughter, and is a basketball coach at a military academy.

At least he never gave up the sport he loved.

After striking out with Lapore, Markle moved onto a nine-month romance with a wealthy fellow student. It wasn’t a great one, explained the source:

[Markle] was very much in love with him, but it was a tempestuous relationship. It was highs and lows. She was ecstatic when things were good and then she would be in a really dark place.

She was taken by his status as his family were wealthy diplomats, but when she went to Argentina, she cut ties and it taught her some lessons about who she should be with.

If only Markle remembered that when she entered another romance, this time with a wealthy and oh-so-passionate Argentinian tycoon. She caught his eye while she was interning at the US embassy in Buenos Aires in 2002. The man even sent his car to pick her up for their first date! Classy AF.

Sadly, nothing much came of their fling, but I’m pretty sure it was fun while it lasted.

Then there was her boyfriend Simon Rex.

Okay, we’re using the term “boyfriend” quite loosely here, since Markle only went on ONE date with him.

Markle met Rex on the set of the short-lived TV show Cuts, on which they both guest-starred for one episode. Rex starred in the Scary Movie franchise and also had a small part in Baywatch. But the fact that he was a porn star before all of this has raised everyone’s eyebrows:

I went there and did that shit. It was just enough to pay the rent at the time. I was living in the moment. In hindsight it wasn’t the best move.

It’s suggested that Markle probably never knew about his porn past when she met him, but one has to wonder why they didn’t hit it off after their first date. *Strokes non-existent beard in thought*

[Rex] is now also a comedian and rapper, using the rap name Dirt Nasty, and proudly reclines naked on a bearskin rug with his dog Duane in the banner photo on his Twitter homepage.

Um, good for you, Rex. You do you. Poor Duane, though.

These were the loves of Markle’s life – now she’s about to get married to Prince Harry, and we hope this one lasts this time.
