This is one for the record books – no really, just ask Guinness World Records.
In a stunning display, 1 374 drones were flown simultaneously in a 13-minute flight in the Chinese tourist city of Xi’an on Sunday evening.
Spread over a kilometre in the night sky, the drones took on 16 different 3D formations including a camel, a Buddha and a high-speed train (talk about versatility, right?).
Enjoy:
As a result, reports The Straits Times, Chinese UAV firm EHang Egret broke the Guinness World Record for most drones flown simultaneously. They broke the previous record held by Intel which recently flew 1 218 drones in formation during the Winter Olympics in South Korea in February – that’s 156 drones more than the US technological giant.
EHang, which specialises in aerial landscaping, made headlines in 2016 when it unveiled a passenger drone concept which it said would retail up to nearly R3,8 million. They said they had completed tests for the one person-carrying vehicle which is capable of travelling at 130kmh.
I’m not sure about spending millions on a drone when weFix are selling a range that starts from R1 800 (for real – check out their Ryze Tech option).
For now, though, let’s all look at the pretty dancing drones.
Nice, but if we’re talking Guinness World Records then this wave takes the cake.
