Finally, a pressing topic with scientific backing.
How does one successfully force the deliciousness that is a ripe avocado into existence before it feels ready to be treated inappropriately by your taste buds?
Fret no more, because the honourable team at Mashable cares about you:
The easiest way to ripen avocados is to throw them in an ol’ brown paper bag. The bag traps ethylene gas, a ripening agent, effectively hotboxing the fruit and accelerating the ripening process. Wait at least 24 hours to see the progress.
Unfortunately the hotbox you’re used to won’t do the trick. It will, however, get you pretty amped for the avo, and maybe even make you consider it edible as is.
24 hours is a long time, especially if you’ve got the munchies.
What else?
Avocadoites sometimes get desperate and throw an apple in with their brown bag avocado, hoping to double up on the amount of ethylene gas. The apple doesn’t seem to have much of an effect, besides giving the avocado an erotic red lustre. Hot?
If you consider yourself an “avocadoite”, or just like it when people make pretty things out of food, have a look at this beautifully butchered avo art – I know.
And in an effort to prove just how well they know you, Mashable did this:
I’m gonna leave the rest to our source, who took the time to create a cute little animation that probably wasn’t necessary.
Check it out HERE, and never eat unripe avo again unless you’re super stoned.
