It’s no secret that Stephen Colbert is generous when it comes to giving his interviewees a drink or two during his show, but Sean Penn didn’t need the help to get a little loose.
On Monday night, the actor-cum-author brought his own vice to the stage, and even told Colbert about it, saying that he had “inherited a little bit of the Ambien I had to take to get to sleep after a red-eye last night,” reports IOL:
“So, in other words, you’re still a little bit on the Ambien train right now?” Colbert asked.
A smiling Penn responded, “A little bit.”
Ambien is a sedative primarily used for the treatment of trouble sleeping.
But before that enlightening conversation went down, while the two were chatting about Penn’s satirical debut novel, “Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff,” Penn pulled out a pack of cigarettes from his jacket pocket and lit up right there:
What a cheeky smile.
Penn also mentioned that he doesn’t want to act anymore, because it’s all about collaboration:
“I increasingly don’t play well with others.”
In writing the novel, Penn got to work in solitude, which suited him. Here’s the “Ambien train” chat:
And then, just to finish it off, the last video of the segment features the part of the show where they play a celeb guest-themed game:
