Back in May of last year, Stellenbosch was rocked by the murder of 21-year-old student Hannah Cornelius.
Cornelius and Cheslin Marsh were hijacked in Bird Steet, Stellenbosch, and footage later emerged of police chasing the then suspects.
Sadly the family has now suffered another loss, with Hannah’s 56-year-old mother Anna found dead yesterday.
News24 reports:
Her body was discovered along the shores of Scarborough near Cape Town on Sunday morning.
A family member confirmed to News24 that Cornelius’ body was discovered and subsequently recovered by the National Sea Rescue Institute (NRSI)…
The family member, who did not want to be named, noted that Cornelius [above with husband Willem] was an avid swimmer who swam every morning.
Western Cape police confirmed that an inquest case is currently being investigated after a woman was found floating in the water near Scarborough beach.
Times LIVE spoke with Ian Klopper‚ National Sea Rescue Institute station commander at Kommetjie:
“At 9am on Sunday‚ NSRI Kommetjie duty crew launched the sea rescue craft Spirit of the Vines following eyewitness reports of a body floating offshore of Scarborough‚” Klopper said.
“On arrival on the scene the body of an adult female was recovered onto our sea rescue craft from the water 150 metres offshore of Scarborough and NSRI paramedics confirmed the female to be deceased from a suspected fatal drowning accident.”
The four men accused of the murder of Hannah – Vernon Witbooi‚ Eben van Niekerk‚ Geraldo Parsons and Nashville Julius – will appear in court on April 20, with the trial having been pushed back because the defence hadn’t received all of the state’s evidence against the men.
