Without elaborating, a man who briefly stole Frances McDormand’s Oscar for Best Actress told his Facebook followers that he had won it for “music”.
While the highlight of the evening was her acceptance speech – especially the end’s “inclusion rider” appeal – McDormand soon turned to tears when her Oscar was taken from her table at the Governor’s Ball after the ceremony.
According to police, the culprit was one Terry Bryant, 47, and in the short time he had it, he posted a Facebook Live video claiming:
“Got this tonight! This is mine. We got it tonight, baby!”
Sure, buddy.
Variety reports that Bryant, who had a ticket to the ball, was soon arrested on grand theft charges, but not before he recorded the two-minute shocker:
He kissed the Oscar several times before allowing those around him at the party to touch the trophy, and even offered photos with the Oscar. At one point, he yelled, “Where’s the Jimmy Kimmel party at?” An unidentified bystander replied, “That’s your ticket to any party you want to go to!”
Claiming that he won the Oscar “for music,” without elaborating, Bryant said he would be heading to the Vanity Fair Academy Awards party.
Watch Terry go befok below:
McDormand was spotted crying outside the Governors Awards Ball after giving up the search for the statuette on the premises, and departing with her husband, filmmaker Joel Coen.
However, it wasn’t long after the alert was made that the saga was over.
Bryant was stopped by the photographer for Wolfgang Puck (the chef who creates the Academy Award’s menu), who got the Oscar back because it was engraved with her name on it.
But not before he took this photo:
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed Bryant’s identity and that they had arrested him, and according to reports he is being held on $20 000 (R237 000) bail.
Meanwhile, McDormand’s rep, Simon Hall, said in a statement:
“After some brief time apart, Frances and her Oscar were happily reunited. They celebrated the reunion with a double cheeseburger from In-N-Out Burger.”
Nothing like some comfort food to help you forget the tears.
