It’s safe to say that Elton John wasn’t all that impressed with the crowd at his Las Vegas show last Thursday.
In fact, they might just have ensured that Elton never again invites fans on stage, after one chap came a little too close for comfort.
During his performance of ‘Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)’, the musician allowed some fans to climb on stage to join in the fun.
Sadly, though, he ended up telling a fan to ‘f*** off’ before leaving the stage in a huff.
It has been reported that Elton told the man to stop, and he failed to listen, which resulted in this awkwardness:
You can see Elton give him the side-eye around 10 seconds in, but then he comes back for more.
He later explained his decision to leave the stage, as UCR reports:
“Thursday night in Las Vegas a fan put his hands on the piano keys while I was playing and continued to do so even after I asked him to stop,” John said in a statement. “He then proceeded to reach over the piano and try to take pictures, completely disrupting the performance. I bring fans onstage every evening when we play ‘Saturday Night’ in the set… it is always a lovely part of the show where I get to meet them, shake their hands and have them right there with me while I play.
“They have always been very courteous to the fact we are in the middle of playing a song live. This guy was rude, disruptive and had no care or respect for our show and so I let him know how I felt, then left the stage until they had removed him.”
Elton will continue to perform in Vegas until May 17, but I’m not sure the fans will be getting as up close and personal going forward.
It all sounds a bit like that time Billy Joel played in front of his home crowd.
