Anyone in your life who is addicted to Snapchat might have been in a hellish mood over the past couple of days.
While updates are supposed to improve an app, adding some sexy new features that users will eventually learn to love, Snapchat made a big whoopsie and, well, pretty much redesigned the whole thing.
Ashley Vasquez, a 21-year-old Snapchat user who is a senior at the University of Maryland in College Park, shared the worst insult with CNN:
“I might start using Instagram Stories now.”
Deep.
But she’s not the only one who loathes the update, which basically merges your friends’ Snap messages with their Stories.
As it stands, nearly 700 000 people have signed an online petition calling on Snapchat to revert its update back to the original design, reports The Guardian. It was authorised by Australian user Nic Rumsey, who made his reasoning clear with this message:
“Many users have found that it has not made the app easier to use but has in fact made many features more difficult,” the petition reads.
“There is a general level of annoyance among users and many have decided to use a VPN app to go back to the old Snapchat, as that’s how annoying this new update has become.
“This petition aims to help convince Snap Inc to change the app back to the basics, before this new 2018 update”.

Others took to alternative social media platforms – namely Twitter – to have their say, protesting that the new interface is cluttered and difficult to use:
Of course, outspoken social commentator Chrissy Teigen shared her own thoughts on the matter:
The major update comes after CEO and founder Evan Spiegel acknowledged that Snapchat can be hard to understand. The company then announced in November that it was working on a redesign of its flagship app to “attract new users”.
Greedy much?
For those of you who have yet to figure out the app, have never used the app, or are avoiding the update so you don’t feel the same way, here’s what Snapchat’s update entails:
The app previously featured content from friends, publishers and celebrities on one page. Now, there’s a designated page for publishers and a page for friends.
Snapchat Stories, which are photos and videos shared by users that disappear after 24 hours, are now mixed in with direct messages and individual Snaps. Users you’ve interacted with recently appear higher on the screen rather than a list of recent Stories.
Confused? Don’t worry, we all are.
But despite all the pleas, parent firm Snap Inc. has shared no plans on whether it will reconsider the original design. Rather, in a statement, a spokeswoman said:
“Updates as big as this one can take a little getting used to, but we hope the community will enjoy it once they settle in”.
Now that’s naughty.
If Snapchat is your thing, here’s a how to guide to make your adjustment to the updates a little easier.
I am sure this will all blow over soon enough – you know how youngsters these days love a good moan.
