It was a bit touch-and-go there for a second.
When Capetonians made a noise, with some calling to cancel the 40th edition of the Cape Town Cycle Tour, participants from across the country freaked out as many had long-booked travel arrangements.
Thankfully, worries were soon laid to rest when the Tour’s director detailed their water-concious plans. Read all about those here.
The tour, which is scheduled for March 11, is not the only cycle event happening during the month: the Junior Cycle Tour, Mountain Bike Cycle Tour, and the Mountain Bike World Cup are all planned to take place, too.
If you’re one of the thousands expected to arrive from beyond the Western Cape’s borders to participate in any one of those cycle-related events, you might be having sleepless nights about bringing your bicycle to the Cape.
Because you don’t want your R30 000 bike ending up like this:
The stuff of nightmares, I tell you.. and you’ll find plenty of these videos strewn across the internet.
To avoid a devastating situation like that, it’s a good idea to go with the best.
Swedish brand Thule has a range of bike carriers (as well as other impeccable products) that will ensure you will never experience the harrowing moment of finding your bike mangled on the side of the road.
Previously stocked in South Africa, Thule Euroway G2 923 3 Bike Carrier is making a comeback:
It features plastic bump buckle straps which are easily tightened, a foot pedal tilt which enables you to access the boot without having to offload the bikes, detachable arms and a simple mounting mechanism that is easy to use.
And you can load up to three bikes. #winning.
If you’re looking for something that goes on top, however, the Thule ProRide might be for you:
A light and elegant roof rack, it automatically rests against the self-adjusting frame, which allows you to comfortably secure the bike by tightening the turning knob.
Each rack has the capacity to carry up to 20 kilograms. Oh, and you will need a couple of roof racks for this option.
You can find out which option is best for your car here.
Rest easy, dearest cyclist. See you in March, and please be bringing your own water in that car, too.
