Oh, you have a house on the Atlantic Seaboard that has an undisturbed view of the ocean – boring. We joke, because you’ve got a good thing going on, but how about a “magical forest home” in the Constantia Nek area of Hout Bay?
The Republic is a beautiful place to call home, which is why every visitor to the Mother City has that picture taken from Chappies overlooking the Bay.
There’s plenty to be said for the property around Constantia Nek, too, and Blackwood Manor is about as good as it gets. According to Tanya Jovanovski, franchisee of Rawson Auctions, “it’s a living work of art”, and we’re finding it hard to disagree.
It’s featured on Property24, and is going up for auction on March 28 with a reserve price of R65 million. Time for some property porn:
Beautifully crafted from a fusion of natural stone, hand-selected woods and glass, and intermingled with the natural surrounding flora and tranquil streams, Jovanovski says this unique home has evolved and grown over 25 years…
This mystical home fits into the natural habitat of its location on five different levels. Hand-selected tree trunks are used as support pillars throughout the house, and the steel front door, which is custom-made by Conrad Hicks, leads into the spacious open-plan lounge, kitchen and dining room…
The lounge is massive, with hand-carved white sandstone walls and a double-volume, beamed ceiling. Plenty of natural light streams across the yellowwood floors and sills from the custom-made ash windows, and illuminates the 2 500 litre tropical fish tank which serves as a room divider.
The dining room features a 16-seater Pierre Cronje dining table, three built-in oak cupboards, curly cherry flooring (which is heated) and concealed doors that lead out to an outdoor dining deck, a braai area, koi ponds and stunning views…
The property’s numerous entertainment areas include a games room, TV room (or study) with a deck, a gymnasium which is fitted with a sauna and steam room, a magnificent subterranean wine cellar with a 16-seater Pierre Cronje dining table, an outside jacuzzi which can seat more than nine people and an enormous L-shaped pool with accompanying decks, a long waterslide, swinging ropes, monkey bars, polo nets, balancing beams and ladders, all of which are complemented by specially-designed private relaxation areas.
You’ll find a small rain forest and outdoor showers with succulents and mini waterfalls, a level garden area and an entertainment area with a mosaic dining table and pergola…
The property also has three koi-filled water features, each on a different level of the home, some of which surround a major part of the house, and have underwater glass viewing-panels located in strategic rooms like the games room, wine cellar and gym. There are also two more areas currently under construction in the garden, a lower garden entertainment area and a lower garden courtyard.
That’s just part of the write-up, because they really went to town hyping this one up. You can see the listing on Property24 here.
And now we return to the real world, where the rest of us battle to scrape together money to buy a hole in the wall in Sea Point.
